This is our second set of Magna-Tiles (our first being the 100 clear-color set) and there is a noticeable reduction in quality in this newer set. My oldest son could tell right away that the newer tiles are more lightweight and not as strong, magnetically, as the older pieces. For comparison, a square tile from the old set weighs 32g, and a square from the new set (same dimensions) weighs 28g. Maybe they have started using cheaper magnets. The reduced magnetic strength means that shapes and structures are more likely to collapse mid-build or from slight bumps, which, needless to say, is very frustrating. My kids didn't want to play with the new tiles for very long. Very disappointing. For reference, the old "good" tiles are imprinted with "Manga Tiles, Valtech LLC, Made in Philippines", while the new, "bad" tiles are imprinted with "Magna-Tiles, People Co., Ltd, & Valtech LLC, Made in Indonesia."
