This Unimproved Collagen and Elastin is worthless and potentially dangerous
I have been using the St Ives collagen and elastin- off and on- for more years than I care to remember. They may have reformulated it over the years but I never noticed. This time, this they changed the formula ( in a purple container and called Timeless Skin to an inferior product in a blue container called Renewing). The original Timeless Skin was a nice product with a smooth, non-greasy texture at a very affordable price. Unilever changed the product in very significant and inferior way, they have bought out many good "natural" or "organic" companies and have done the same thing. The preservative Phenoxyethanol, a formaldehyde-releasing preservative, is limited to use in Japan at 1%. It used to be the last ingredient before fragrance and now it is towards the top.. Being the 6th ingredient is is very worrisome and potentially dangerous, meaning there is much more phenoxyethanol than any beneficial ingredients. In fact, collagen and elastin are now the last ingredients, there is even more fragrance in the new and unimproved product than collagen and elastin, the last ingredients. The number of ingredients have stayed the same, but all of the beneficial ingredients (sunflower seed oil, collagen and elastin) have been made insignificant compared to the cheap and potentially harmful preservative and fillers that are way too high on the list. The texture is similar, but does not have the bulk of the previous formulation, because collagen and elastin give creams bulk and there is barely any in this cream. It also has a much stronger smell, because again, there is more fragrance than active ingredients. Timeless Skin (Collagen and Elastin) Ingredients: Water, Mineral Oil, Propylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Stearic Acid, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Hydrolyzed Elastin, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Cathamus Tinctorious New and Unimproved Renewal (Collagen and Elastin) Note:the official St Ives site even misrepresents their ingredient! (Shady) The ingredients on the container are:Water(Aqua), Mineral Oil, Propylene Glycol, Glycerl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Stearic Acid, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower Seed Oil), Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone Disodium EDTA, Fragrance (Parfum), Ethylhexylglycerin, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Hydrolyzed Elastin. The supposedly up-to-date (false) ingredients from the official St.Ives Site: Water (Aqua, Eau), Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum, Huile Minerale), Propylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Stearic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance (Parfum), Ethylhexylglycerin, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Hydrolyzed Elastin, Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Coumarin, Geraniol. Interestingly enough when looking for the ingredients for the Timeless C& E, I found several versions that were much superior than the most recent, Collagen/Elastin being some of the first ingredients instead of dead last as it is now. Water (Eau/Aqua), Geraniol, Coumarin, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Hydrolyzed Elastin, Hexylcinnamel, Linalool, Glycerin, Ethylhexl Glycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Disodium EDTA, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, CarthamusTinctorius Seed Oil (Safflower), Phenoxyethanol, Stearic Acid, Glyceril Stearate, Propylene Glycol, PEG-100 Stearate, Mineral Oil. This is the formulation that I loved so many years ago. St. Ives (as well as many other "natural" or "organic" skin/haircare companies- Nature's Gate which used to make fantastic products comes to mind- sold out to Unilever and their previously mostly natural and safe products became junk, filled with cheap and potentially dangerous. Many of these companies who did not test on animals, now do under Unilever.
