Terrible Machine
I should have known better. I had the 180E and it never worked right and it never accepted any other hoop except the largest. I felt that I got a lemon and it wouldn't happen again. I bought the 830 because of the large flatbed on it (but now other makes have it, as well). For the big $$$ I expected it to be my dream machine. Well, it's my nightmare machine. In a year it's had major surgery twice tying it up for weeks. The only reason it's only been in twice is because it's hardly portable and I can't afford to tie it up. I need it for work so I put up with it but it takes 4x as long to get anything done with the constant threading problems. It DOES NOT thread itself, it doesn't stay threaded, breaks needles all the time coming down on it's own foot. Thread jams, top & bottom, constant error messages, and sometimes it forgets where the design is supposed to be in the hoop after you have several of the colors down. It's cost me a fortune in ruined projects, time & asperin.
But seriously, why should I have expected more from a company that named it "830" after another 20 year old model? So that anytime you look for parts or need service or accessories you have to make sure you're both talking about the new 830 not the old 830. These machines couldn't be more different. Did the universe run out of numbers or is it that no one at Bernina can count any higher?
I belong to a couple of chat groups for people who machine embroider & sew. Very often someone will write in to ask for a machine recommendation. Never once have I heard a Bernina owner recommend a Bernina machine. While the Janome, BabyLock, Viking & Brother owners can't say enough great things about their machines. I going to have to trade this in for another make. This machine was not ready for market.
