Waste of time
I'm at 12% and I want to give up. But my New Year's Resolution is to at least skim every book until the end before writing it off. However, 10 days into the year and I. JUST. CAN'T.
First of all, demeaning women is not my thing. The H in this book not only speaks to and treats women horribly, especially the h. Dominance and alpha are one thing. Just plain mean is never going to be sexy to me.
Second of all, I hate a fake America, unless I'm reading something like paranormal or fantasy. Never could this 30-year old dude with such a shady past have been elected a U.S. Senator. Never would a Senator take a 19-year old hostage-bride of a known crime lord. Never would anyone from the U.S. Senate be involved in local crime dealings, at all. That's not even a state legislature issue. You may have to trust me on this, I literally worked for a member of Congress.
Third, I don't mind a young h when she's mature. So far, this chick is reading like a 12-year old. IDK, maybe because I just finished watching that R. Kelly docuseries but I'm uncomfortable and creeped out because she seems too immature to be in this situation.
And finally the writing. Too many adverbs and descriptors. "I offered a provocative yawn." "...I suggested cordially." (nothing wrong with a good ole fashioned 'I said') The h has "Eyes the color of crushed wildflowers and glossy." What the hell does that even mean? Random words take me out of the story.
I'm going to keep going because, y'all promise me it’ll get better. Plus, I refuse to break my reading resolution before my dieting one.

Well, I finished. Didn't get better. But didn't get worse either. Tons of this make NO SENSE. Explaining would create spoilers and I don't want to do that. I'm kinda of mad that I spent two days on this. I'm rethinking my "finish every book" plan for 2019. Life's too short to spend time on anything that's not gelling with me.
