There are two distinct bulb versions that operate differently
I bought three of the exact same bulb, Kasa KL130, but received two different versions. Two are hardware version 2.0, and one is hardware version 1.0. Both state are “KL130.” This was unexpected, as there is no mention of two different versions in the product description. While both versions work, there are notable differences when using them side-by-side, which make them unfeasible if ordering more than one. The bulb versions are cosmetically and operationally different. Version 1.0 has a black stripe, is 800 lumens, uses 10.5 watts, and has a current firmware of 1.8.11. Version 2.0 has a white stripe, is 850 lumens, uses 9.5 watts, and has a current firmware of 1.0.9. So version 1.0 is not as bright as version 2.0 at maximum. I’ve attached photos of the boxes showing the clear differences even from the packaging (which are different sizes and show distinct photos/product info). In addition to the cosmetic and luminosity difference, version 1.0 is slower to respond to commands than version 2.0, which is very problematic because I have the three bulbs on the same strip. The two version 2.0 bulbs are quick to respond together, while the version 1.0 bulb has a noticeable delay for the same command. I would return the version 1.0 bulb but would have no idea which version it would be replaced with. I see that other reviewers have posted about the same issue. I've reached out to Kasa and will update my review if I hear back and the matter is resolved. Hopefully, I can get another version 2.0 bulb, so that I have three identical bulbs. Bottom line, there are two versions of the same bulb for sale that are incorrectly marketed as one, and which look, act, and respond differently.
