If you have a Mac - DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!
This printer is like that really good-looking person you are so tempted to date. Your friends warn you that she/he is nuts, but you don't listen because, well, he/she is really really good looking. And they seem so charming and innocent at first. Once you start dating, however, the crazy starts to come out, and it only gets worse from there. But you get just enough from the relationship to keep trying. By the time you're done, the only solution is to cut all ties, get a restraining order, and move out of town, leaving no forwarding address.
It looks very sleek out of the box. You turn it on and it makes pretty tinkly sounds and emits pretty purple and pink lights. But when it comes time actually to print -- whoo-boy! Trying to get it to connect to your laptop/desktop/ipad/whatever wirelessly is entirely hit or miss. It will work sometimes, maybe in your case (as in mine) just enough to keep using it beyond the 30-day return window.
But when you begin to realize that no, this isn't going to get better, it's going to continue to be an EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING ISSUE THAT WILL DRAIN MANY PRECIOUS HOURS FROM YOUR LIFE, it's too late. You're stuck with the pretty but vacuous-headed thing.
I haven't had to connect a printer to my laptop via a USB cord in probably 10 years. Well, make sure you have one handy, because you're going to need it. Believe it or not, the (Mac) wifi troubleshooting instructions actually tell you to hook up the printer via USB cord, no lie. It is then that your printer will finally pop up in their useless app (HP "Smart," which must refer to the pain you will feel after wrestling with it).
About that app and those instructions -- I like minimalist design as much as the next person, but minimalist should not mean non-existent. The instructions provided are the absolute bare minimum. If anything goes wrong, woe betide you! You have to go on the internet, where virtually all of the instructions are written for PCs. Have a Mac? You're treated like a leper. Moreover, most of the instructions assume you have a video touchscreen. This printer model DOES NOT.
However tempted you may be, Mac users -- don't do it!
UPDATE: I called HP customer support. I was on with someone for nearly 2 hours (no exaggeration). We finally got it to work, when connected with a USB cord. But a few days later, when I tried to use the printer again, it would not work. Wouldn't connect to the printerl. Didn't recognize it at all -- despite having known it well enough to print just a few days earlier. Talk about being ghosted. I never expected to be ghosted by my printer. (Oh, and at no point did the HP rep offer a refund or replacement.)
UPDATE 2: I got a new Mac laptop. So I thought I'd give the printer another go. Ooh boy, what a mistake. Had just as much trouble to get the damn thing to work In fact, I never did get it to print a single page (other than the test page). Tried to connect via wifi (I have the latest AT&T modem). No dice, despite trying three different ways. (At one point, it suggested moving the printer closer. It was only 12 inches away.) Tried to connect via the USB connection (which is a joke, in this day and age). It STILL wouldn't connect. It's got a cord running between my laptop and the printer, it's less than a foot away -- but it can't find the printer! Apparently it couldn't find its ass with both hands.
Another note: Despite this review getting over 170 likes, HP has never reached out to me. I guess they don't give a crap about Mac users. Well, the feeling's mutual. I'll never get an HP product again.
