Seagate drives fail, and your data is lost unless you pay them $550
This drive, still under warranty, just failed on me. It is the second Seagate drive in a row to fail in this way. Seagate said they will replace the drive, but will do nothing to restore the data lost unless I pay $550 + another initiation fee. The failure of the drive is the responsibility of the manufacturer. The fact that two in a row did the same thing tells me that this is a poorly made product. I also question the ethics of refusing to help recover data without a huge fee. It's like the scam where a hacker tie up your computer and refuse to unlock it unless you pay them hundreds of dollars. Do not buy this drive. If you do, be sure you get data protection policy because the drive will fail, sooner or later.
