This is my second OXO Good Grips Can Opener. I bought the first one about 12 years ago. Absolute best can opener I've ever owned. Smooth operation, cut cleanly, easy to turn, even for my kids. But, nothing lasts forever, and after about 10 years, I noticed a decline. 10 years is a fine run for a can opener, I wasn't upset. I got a Kitchenaid that was supposed to be good. It was good. But I missed my old OXO Good Grips. It was easier to turn than the Kitchenaid, and it never 'caught' and left that one annoying edge, which the Kitchenaid did ALL THE TIME. So three weeks ago I bought a new OXO Good Grips. What a piece of junk!! It isn't smooth, it catches all the time, it bends lids. Tonight, after trying to open a can of green beans and bending the can, the lid, and having the lid catch in TWO separate places, I threw the stupid can opener away. It even feels lighter than I remember the old one being. This has gone seriously downhill. No idea what I'm going to buy next, but it won't be an OXO product. EDIT - added a picture. This can was perfectly round before I used the can opener on it, note how deformed it looks now. Also, if you can do a close up, you can see THREE spots where the lid caught, and a couple shards of paper where the label is getting shredded too. I have ordered a Zyliss. It can hardly be worse...
