The Pepper extract process seems to use petroleum solvents or dichlomethane. Dichloromethane was banned for use in decaffenating coffee decades ago. There was some indication that a xyleen compound may be used to achieve higher concentrations of pepper extract. Apparently GRAS and patenting processes have allowed the use of dangerous solvents to be used. Keep in mind that US GOVT. tests only about one out of ten items for safety. Extractions being used were unknown to me when ordered. After getting stomach sickness, my research assistant discovered solvents for extraction were being used like dichloromethane and maybe xyleen compounds. Those familiar with laboratory practices know THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS 100% PURITY.
