Doesn't work as advertised and causes power delivery issues
I am using with a 2016 13in Macbook pro. I can't get it to detect a 1080p Dell external display using a active HDMI->display port cable. I don't know if this is an issue with my unit or just a design problem but either way it's not working as advertised.
Next, although you can charge through it (by connecting the USB-C cable into the dongle then the dongle into the computer), it causes issues. First, the power delivery is inconsistent, sometimes it charges sometimes not. In itself this isn't that big of a deal, but it's suggesting some significant design problem. Next, the computer's firmware/settings seems to get confused from it - after charging through the dongle, I had a random shutdown and couldn't restart the computer. I took it to the apple store, they reset some power settings using some mysterious hotkeys, which fixed it. This is the only time such issue has come up, so simplest explanation is that it's caused by the dongle. There's no problems with my computer (per their diagnostics) so at least whatever problems this dongle causes aren't permanent. But either way, there's some bad issues with this dongle.
Caveat emptor!!
~~Update, oct21 2019~~
These jerks sent me an email asking me to take the review down and promising a refund. So that's probably why you don't see many bad reviews. I think Amazon should start cracking down on this nasty practice. I mean, I imagine, most of the people here are shopping for a USB hub, not an extra chore...
As an aside, in the meantime I spent $300 on another proper USB hub and it works absolutely flawlessly, driving multiple external displays, external drives, high amperage power delivery, and as USB connections as I can throw at it. Probably a bit of an overkill but I'm sure most people would rather spend $300 on something that works rather than a $40 paperweight.
