Quarantine craft time!
First time candle maker here! During the Coronavirus quarantine, I figured I'd learn something new. I purchased some floral scented essential oils and a small kit that came with colorants to try with the 5lb package of soy wax. I did a trial run with two different scents. I watched a super helpful video on YouTube as well (I'll see if I can include the link) and set off on my mess making adventure.
Here's what I found:
-wax melts at 120°F
-it's pourable at 167°F
-fragrance goes in at 180°F
-dyes melt between 190°F and 210°F
-it takes twice as much wax chips as the size of your container to fill it when melted down
I added fragrances, which this wax has a 10% fragrance load. No idea what that means yet, but I know 15 drops of essential oils makes a stronger, more robust scent than only 10. 10 is barely enough to put a very faint fragrance in the candle. (I'm gonna try adding 20, 25, and 30 drops in my next trial!)
I didn't find the wax hard to use or difficult to manipulate. I did however make a gigantic mess on my stove haha I plan to play around with the process more, but overall, as a newbie, this was a good start!
