I've been using an old fashioned mesh strainer to rinse my rice. The problem with this is when washing under a faucet, the water goes straight through - meaning you have to really keep adjusting the bowl so that all the rice is rinsed. With this particular bowl, it shaves off much of that wasted time and gets the rice even cleaner. When you place the rice in the bowl and begin to rinse, the water generally will reach a consistent level above the rice - where gravity takes over and drips out the excess perfectly no matter how much water you are running through it. I generally just shuffle the rice around with my fingers while its submerged. The friction of the submerged rice together with the constant flow of water gets the rice especially clean. The water drains right out leaving perfectly clean rice. I love this bowl!
