So far, all good. But it was a process, and any simpleton can do it but you MUSTTTTT have patience with your cat!!!!!! Put yourself in his place and try to think like a cat-this is so completely unnatural for them. But in my opinion they do need to get some safe time outdoors so I believe in the harness wholeheartedly. Do your due diligence and it will pay off for you. Here, I'll copy and paste some advice I gave a person from Facebook when they were asking what to do about their cat hating his harness (it was one that slips over his head and one leg-he wasn't having it): What is he motivated by? Food? Play? Affection? Get a different harness. Ours clips around the neck and under the ribs, I'll find it on Amazon and post it for you. Depending on the cat it truly takes a multiple step process to get them accustomed to it. So A LOT of patience is required but it's truly worth it after it's all said and done. Peace of mind is worth the effort, trust me. I would get a different harness and then plan on a week minimum of getting him used to it before you even try to go out. First when it arrives I'd get him used to it's smell and sound when it jingles the clasps. Like wait until feeding time and bring it out and set it next to him and then when he starts smelling it etc then feed him. Do that for a few days and then after he's indifferent to it you can try putting it on him. Clip it on and then immediately offer his most coveted treat. Don't leave it on too long-maybe just a few minutes. Depending on how stubborn he is, he may or may not even try to eat his most coveted treat. Repeat this though for a few days and make sure to keep it super short so as not to traumatize him. Eventually he'll associate harness with treat and won't resist it as much. He should eventually stop trying to resist and actually eat his treat. It's all about association. And cats are stubborn little bastids when it comes to things they don't like so you HAVE TO be extremely patient. Our cat is peculiar, he's not very food-motivated so we had a few days sitting there stumped as to what would motivate him to accept it. We discovered he was MOST motivated by actually getting outside- little tard only cared about getting out lol! So we were like OK..... Let's put the harness on and then immediately go out the door. So we tried that and that was the first time he ever sat still and didn't freak out and try to get out of the harness. Then we did that a couple days and he realized that if he wore it he could go out. And that was that. That's all it took. As soon as it clicked that he could get what he wanted by wearing the harness he was totally all about it. Now he will sit still while we clip it on and wait by the door!
