I purchased this in 1992 and use it regularly while camping today. It uses 16 oz short propane cylinder. The unit has two parts the base and the burner. No it does not include the first propane cylinder. You can buy them at most retail stores and sporting goods stores. They are very inexpensive, The burner is very solid, the control knob has stepped setting so it doesn't drift while on. To use, simply turn the knob on the lowest setting and with a lighter or lit match near the burner it will lite. This unit puts out some heat. I can boil a pot of cold water in less than a minute. A few years ago I was building a pine car for my Boy Scout at home. We ran into an issue with weight and needed a special sized piece of lead for the car. " What I did is highly dangerous and poison gas from lead can turn you into a Mad Hatter", I used a small cast iron pot and smelted lead with this coleman burner. Poured an ingot and used it in my sons Pinewood Derby Car. I used that same burner to make MacNCheese on our Camping trip last weekend. Purchased in 1992 still working in 2014, that's high high quality and I recommend this product.
