slicing like butter. I ended up cutting way back into ...
I'm a contractor. I have a lot of high quality power tools. I needed a powerful trimmer to tame a bouganvillea bush 30 ft long x 15ft high x 10ft wide. Several landscapers declined to touch it. The branches grow thick and strong and covered with vicious thorns which will impale anything near it...even through thin leather gloves, even car tires !! I always bleed when handling it and the thorns cause infection. It is a vine which can become a 30ft tree. I needed a serious tool with power and strong blades. For only occasional use, I needed the reliability of electric with the power of a gas engine and this 5hp motor is the most powerful I could find. I also needed to slice through 5/8-3/4" branches which are very tough. This Remington RM5124TH Hedge Wizard Pro, simply ate its way through the bush, slicing like butter. I ended up cutting way back into the center, carving back the old hard dead wood. Shaping was easy with the long dual action blade.
Make sure that you oil it first and during a long session, it makes a difference. Use a car oil or transmission fluid, a drop on each tooth, between the upper and lower cutting surfaces, then power on for 10 secs to lubricate. Regarding the cable/wire length, the quoted wire gauge is for delivering 15 amps. This 5amp motor will draw a peak current of approx 7.5amps at max load if the 5amp rating is RMS amperage. I used a 100ft 12g cable with a 25ft 14g addition with no loss of performance. Also 50ft and 25ft addition, both 14g. No problem whatsoever. A 100ft 14g should not be a problem. Just make sure the cable does not get hot..!! On surface trimming, this motor will never draw max load anyway....even though I was using it as a brush cutter..!! In normal cutting positions, the tool is well balanced. The 3 points of safety are easy if you are holding the tool appropriately and I was glad of them. It is awkward in certain extended positions. The rotating handle is a huge ergonomic benefit, but managed somehow to engage the safety trigger lock in, so powered on when I depressed the front handle safety whilst picking it up, a couple of times, which scared me since I was not yet positioned to cut and my other hand was close to the wicked blades. I am a big researcher, usually also calling factory tech support for additional details. I looked at every single trimmer on the US market, researched their site and called their customer support. This is, without any doubt, a very strong and serious tool with much more power than a battery powered one. Probably, the best available in an electric model. I am extremely satisfied with this tool and that my research paid off.
