Happy Hens!
It's -25 outside here in Montana and the inside of my 4 x 6 x 6 insulated coop is 21 degrees. Although that is not by any means "warm," it is making my three hens very happy. I was nervous about heating their coop - worried about fire, getting them too hot, and fluctuations in temperature. So, I resisted. But, when they got some frostbite on their combs with the last arctic blast, I couldn't stand it any more. This panel was super easy to set up.I mounted it to the side wall a few inches above straw level near the girl's roost to my side wall. It took about 5 minutes and started like a charm. My temp/humidity monitor says there are no swings of temperature or humidity - just an even rise or fall depending on when the hen's access door is open (day) or closed (night). I've had it about 10 days. When the outside temp was in the 20s, the inside temp was in the 40s. Once it got below zero, the coop moved to the 20s. This means the girls won;t freeze when they go outside. They look nice and fluffy and seem to have a little twinkle in their eyes. Having oatmeal with mealworms for breakfast probably helps.
