Counterfeit Cable; Copper Clad Aluminum will never be Cat5 or Cat3 rated.
Copper Clad Aluminum conductors are a sorry excuse for communications cable. Aluminum is too brittle to be spun out as AWG24. I couldn't find performance ratings for Aluminum below 18AWG; it probably doesn't meet code under any circumstances. This paper thin aluminum will break due to work hardening after minor manipulations/terminations. The UL listing on this cable was faked; it's a counterfeit from China.
These Copper Clad Aluminum pairs were nowhere close to the performance requirements of Cat5e, Cat5, or even Cat3 specifications. It couldn't pass HPNA 10MHz signals over 1000ft. It barely passed HSDL 3MHz across the 1000ft of wire. HPNA and HDSL over 1000ft of copper wire usually has a very large link budget; this CCA wire performance is vastly inferior to genuine copper cables. Traditional Ethernet has a spectrum around 30MHz; I only assume it would perform even worse than HPNA and HSDL on this CCA cable.
It could pass baseband signals below 20Khz, but the resistance of this wire is very high (I observed 120 Ohms on a pair). It might not be able to power a traditional landline phone.
Furthermore, this cable doesn't have "Icky-Pick" Gel. The Gel is a must for underground cabling. One cut and an underground cable without gel is toast.
Genuine Copper cables for direct burial can be had for around 2x the price of this cable. Avoid Copper Clad Aluminum cables, they will never meet Cat5 specifications.
