NOCO GB40 very disappointing
I am a heavy equipment technician that works from a service truck, and i was really looking forward to using this tool. Several times i need to jump start an engine but cant get my service truck to the piece of equipment, so you have to remove the battery and either charge it or replace it, and then diagnose the charging system. This jump pack would have been perfect, and would save me a lot of work, if it worked the way it was supposed to. I tried this thing at least a half dozen times on different batteries, but it never worked. Some of the batteries werent even discharged that bad. I began to test the jump pack, i hooked it up to a battery that had 10.84 volts, left my multi meter attached to the battery so i could see what the jump pack put out. I hooked up the pack, and it made no change in voltage at all. Tried several times to get it into manual charge mode, but if you follow the directions in the manual for this thing, it will never go into that mode. I always have to remove one of the clamps from the battery, then hold down the bypass button, then it goes into manual mode, then hook up the other clamp. Then i hooked up my amp clamp to the booster to see how many amps it was putting out, its says up to 1000 amps, but this was only putting out around 150 amps. So its putting out less than 10.84 volts and 150 amps, thats not going to start anything. So i returned this jump pack, i figured i would give them one more chance, since i really want this tool to work for me, so i exchanged it for a new one. The new one puts out a little over 12 volts, i have not tested how many amps, but it does work, although not nearly as good as i was hoping. You still have to disconnect one of the clamps to get it into manual charge mode. I bought the 1000 amp model to test since its cheaper, i was going to get the 2000 amp model, but thought i should test the cheaper model first, glad i did. If they ever get this thing to work the way they say it should, it will be a great tool. But, until then i would hold onto your money.
