★★☆☆☆
Good actors given only half a script.
While everyone does a good job with what they were given, it looks like the producers of this film were afraid of the backlash social media giants would give them if they went too far. The story is set up, and the dangers exposed, but then it ends. It is as if the artist were afraid of what the King would say about their morality play. They want to bring up a point, but not displease their masters. Tom Hanks does a good job playing off character and I wish he had been able to develop more. Emma Watson is still trying to find her post Herminie career. Karen Gillan HAS found her post Dr. Who career and shines even in this thread bare offering. The film reminds me of those movies we watched in high school that purposely left open questions for you to discuss in class. "Should Tommy tell the teacher?" "Is Sally right to be mad?" "Are media conglomerates taking away our individuality?" What do YOU think?
