Barnes (hearts) Bush
Clearly Barnes is quite enamored of President Bush, and I can understand his desire to help the rest of us see the Bush we never knew. But this book is not about a Bush we haven't met - it's about a Bush that doesn't exist. The idea that Bush is not a political machine, that he some kind of an outsider, is ridiculous. His dad was president. His brother is a governor. He has connections to big oil. He had ties with the Saudi Royal Family well before he was elected. C'mon - when your social circle includes heads of state, you pretty much forfeit your claim to being an outsider. Barnes has written a 220 page mash note to GWB that will ring false to all but the most partisan of readers.
