LEAVE IT TO ME, DARN IT, TO HAVE TO WRITE THE BAD REVIEW
This is a let down!!! Most everyone likes this rack. I generally did with one big issue though: the stand sits at a 100-115 degree angle towards the back of the car not allowing a second bike to fit without the handle bar edging the back window of my 2017 Kia Sedona van. CRAZY. But, to alleviate, I was just going to buy a 7 inch hitch extension to seat the bikes further out from the window... problem solved.
BUT....
On only my second local outing (within 20 miles of my housee) with my bike racked up, the turn knob with the key lock broke free, spinning freely and NOT turning the screw. I had to disassemble my bike to get it out from under the arm which holds it and luckily, I did not have a second bike racked up. Why lucky? Because the knob that broke is on the upper arm and a lower arm holds the second bike, locking that second bike into a lower point of contact. The upper arm traps the lower arm in place. I would have to cut metal to remove it to get the second bike free.
Problem... PLASTIC. NEVER should anything requiring tightening and securing be made of plastic. This means within 2 years, all these racks will be stripped out or rotted due to the plastic being so open to the environment and in a vital point of usage / securing the bikes.
EVERYONE will have this incident I have experienced happen to them later down the road, guaranteed. Thus, for now, due to the savvy design of this thing (minus the stupid tilt), the rack seems great and people are giving great reviews. Later, they will not be so happy.
Disappointing, to say the least. This rack is designed great (minus the tilt) but poorly constructed.
