Renewal Harrassment
I did not renew my subscription to Food Network Magazine and received what I consider to be misleading and perhaps bully-like marketing tactic in the form of a letter. The letter I received today suggested that I entered into an agreement to renew my subscription, which is not true. Mailing me a request to renew does not "enter me into an agreement" and suggesting so is unethical in my opinion. When you don't renew a magazine subscription you simply do not pay for the next term, right?. The letter I received from Food Network Magazine today read as follows: "We extended you the privilege of paying later for your subscription. By entering into this agreement we anticipated that you would remit a payment when billed. The balance outstanding is now several months past due. We have sent you numerous bills. We must now insist that you send us your payment immediately. This will be your final opportunity to resume service on your subscription and restore your good standing" Excuse me. Mailing a renewal notice does NOT enter ANYONE into an agreement that is legally binding to renew a magazine subscription. You suggest I am not a person "in good standing" because I did not renew my subscription to Food Network Magazine? You "anticipated" that I would renew, you anticipated wrong. You now "insist" that I make a payment immediately. No. The balance is not "outstanding" because I never agreed to renew my subscription to Food Network Magazine in the first place. Good bye forever Food Network Magazine. Your negative marketing approach spoiled my appetite.
