Too Many Dropouts
Motorola is a communications pioneer so I figured that the SBG6782 would provide me with a dependable internet connection. How wrong I was! There was no problem in getting it registered to my Comcast service but the connection was anything but consistent. It would randomly lose the internet connection from a few to several times a day. My previous modem and another that I'd rented from Comcast never exhibited this problem. ARRIS' "customer service" department's response was to blame a too-strong signal, a too-weak signal, interference, noise on the line, etc.; in other words, anything but a possible problem with the modem itself.
A bit of online searching (when the connection would stay up) showed that I was by no means alone in suffering from this problem. The Comcast forums are rife with complaints from SBG6782 users experiencing the same random dropouts. Similar complaints can be found on other forums as well.
I solved the problem by returning the SBG6782 and purchasing a Linksys C3700 for about half the cost. Now I'm getting 8 DOCSIS channels down and 4 up. My network speeds are the highest they've ever been and there has not been one dropout.
I cannot recommend the SBG6782.
