The reviews that there is no slow speed are correct. At level 1, this thing will spit stuff all over the place. It's super powerful for an inexpensive hand blender, so if that is what you need, yes, get this. It will cut up cold butter easily. Edit 4/9/2014: Got the Kitchen Aid 9 Speed mixer and the video I uploaded shows the dramatic difference in slow speeds. I absolutely love the KA mixer by the way.
