Like so many others looking for a way to watch HD content on their aging TVs without an HDMI connection, I decided to try the cheap route first with this HDMI to component video cable. I read the reviews - most said it didn't work, only a few said it did. This was a lot cheaper than the HDMI to component converters out there, so I decided to take the gamble...and lost. After a lot of research after the fact, this product is a complete scam - of course it didn't work! HDMI cables carry a DIGITAL signal, while component cables carry an ANALOG signal. While they both can produce an HD image, they are not the same signals! Simply splicing in a component cable with an HDMI cable will only make a cute cable that is in fact a lie. The ONLY way to connect a device with HDMI to an older TV with component video connections is by putting an HDMI to component converter in between them - this will convert the digital signal to an analog one. There are a couple for sale on amazon and on the internet (some as much as $400!), but beware there ar some cheap versions out there that produce an off centered image or an image with artifacts/discoloration. I decided to get one selling on amazon for about $65 with actual good reviews - hopefully it works. If not, looks like I'll have to save up and just get a newer TV with actual HDMI connections...
