Fan just arrived today so I can't say much as to its function. Very disappointing :( Still deciding whether or not to keep it as it is definitely different then Pictured!!! I expected it to be plastic for weight and durability, so no surprise there. however the Beautiful distressed Koa wood finish pictured in the first photograph taken from the Amazon website is not what arrived. What came was a dark smooth walnut look that does look like cheap plastic. First I thought it must come in other wood finishes and this was an error, but the box only lists "koa distressed wood" , White, or Silver. So....... The company changed the finish and neglected to change the picture. Bummer. Update: the 36" down rod we ordered came and IS in the "distresses" finish (very nice) however, doesn't match the fan.. Again, bummer. There are pictures from other reviewers if you look very closely you can see it and make an informed decision
