Travel-Sized Light, NOT suitable for Regular, Home-based Light Therapy
I love the idea of light therapy, but I am not finding this light to be a good choice. First of all, it seems quite small. The entire device is only a little bigger than the dimensions of a coaster, and a little thicker. Also, the portion where the light actually comes from is just a tiny bit bigger than the size of a playing card. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I thought it would be larger...maybe more along the lines of an ipad, in terms of size, and actually light producing surface. The light that comes from it seems very bright, but since it's so small, it is hard to find a way to get it to shine from above, rather than from below, which makes it hard to read or do a lot while using the light. It feels sort of like shining a flashlight into your eyes, where the bright light comes from a very small place. The first time I used it as an alarm, I was unsuccessful because I thought I had set the alarm, but in reality, I had confused the bell and circle icons, thinking I would get both a light and sound wakeup, but getting neither. I had to re-read the directions to figure out whether the flashing bell or circle corresponded to light or sound and what state of each was actually a set alarm. The light isn't a gradual dim to bright mimicking sunrise. The low setting is fairly bright, and it just comes on. It doesn't gradually go from dark to light to bright. But that's fine for me. Eventually, the brightness increases until it's at full brightness and after that, if selected, the alarm will begin to sound audibly. I haven't found how to adjust the volume, but it sounds at a reasonable level.
I've had the light for about a week. The cord that comes with it is pretty short also. I think it's 3 feet. It makes it challenging to find a place to use the light and position it correctly. For example, it would be next to impossible to sit on a couch and use the light in front of you because the cord wouldn't reach. Also, it doesn't work at all if it's not plugged in, so that is another limiting factor.
I think this would be a good light in a pinch, maybe for travelling, but NOT for daily home light therapy use.I will be tucking this into my travel bag and searching for a larger, more user friendly light box for my home use.
