I have a refurb of the prior model pointing to the street that I replaced with this model and moved that one to my side yard. The 3D motion detection is useless - no matter how many times I set it up - it alerts me for every little thing happening in the street even if the coverage area isn’t close to the street. Birds eye view is pointless. Why do I need a map of someone walking through the camera zone when I see the same exact thing on the camera? The sensitivity on this model is more than the prior but not in a good way. I had to turn motion alerts down to the lowest setting and reduce the motion detection area more than the prior model to stop the rampant false alarms. The camera quality has not improved, nor its responsiveness in the app, even with good WiFi signal takes several minutes to load live views or process recent activity. Light output which looked to be the biggest design change is no different than the prior model. Buy the old model - there’s nothing worth a premium for this. UPDATE: Ring customer support reached out to me after reading my review. I didn’t have time to get on the phone with them but exchanged emails (they were nice and tried to be as helpful as they could). After sharing settings and pictures of the camera, their advice was to limit my monitoring footprint even more (which is far less than the older model) and then turn on people only alerts (an option i didn’t have to choose before). I was away all day yesterday and received 14 motion alerts - of which 3 were appropriate alerts (mailman and package deliveries) the rest were false alarms or cars driving by in the street far outside my very limited monitoring zone. Third update - customer service reached out again to tell me that my original unit was defective, they replaced it with a new unit for free. After several days with the new one installed and the exact same suppressed settings as the prior unit i had - I still have chronic motion alerts, nothing has improved. Customer service was the only good thing about this experience - they were helpful and responsive - i'm getting a full refund.
