Very nice case, but it stinks - literally. It also irritated my hands from holding it and it makes me ill.
First, I actually like this case. It rotates easily in either a vertical portrait mode or into a horizontal mode. There are 2 indentations that it can rest in for either mode to give two height adjustments. The iPad Air clips into the plastic swivel easily and holds the iPad securely. This keeps the iPad in place without covering almost any of the front surface of the device unlike other cases. There are openings for in the plastic for all the openings on the iPad such as the camera, microphones, connectors, and buttons. So, functionally I like the case, especially for the price. It is similar to the much more expensive Targus. The smart shut off also works provided the iPad is in the case with the buttons facing out. It can actually sit in either of 2 positions rotated 180 degrees. At first I thought the smart shut off didn't work, but it does. This is the main reason I didn't buy the Targus case. So, so far it is a really great case for the low price.
Now, for why I am giving such a low rating. It stinks. Literally, it stinks. It is out gassing something that has a vile, noxious, chemical smell. Just being in the same room with it is bothersome, to the point of getting a headache. The surface of the case feels a little oily, and when this oil gets on your hands they smell too. I am not very sensitive to skin irritations, but I noticed burning and itching where I touched the case. I couldn't be in the same room as the case, even with it sitting on a desk with me doing other things in the room I was getting a headache, and my eyes were burning. Yeah, it is that bad. I had read other reviews before I bought it, and I thought it would have a little odor that would fade quickly. Well, after being left out an entire day it still stunk, and so does the room it was in. I have since taken my iPad Air out of it, and I am letting it air out some in the garage. If after a day or so more it still stinks, it will be going back. Nice case or not, the way it is I can't believe it is safe for humans. So, believe all the other negative reviews. If the smell dissipates I will update the review and the rating. As it is now it will be going back.
The case looks a bit on the cheap side. It is made to look like leather, but it looks like a cheap imitation of leather. It has the pattern of leather embossed into the plastic. The problem is that it has a shiny, oily look to it. That is apparently the same oil the is causing problems.
There is a soft inside lining that contacts the screen. However it too seems to have a small amount of this oil substance, and some seems to transfer to the glass of the display when closed.
If this case were made of some other material I would give it either a 4 or 5 star rating. I've used other cases claiming "PU" leather and other simulated leather that while obviously not real leather is quite acceptable. This one literally makes me ill.

After leaving the case opened up in the garage for a few weeks the smell has dissipated quite a bit. It still stinks, but not to the point it makes me sick any more. The smell is now mostly tolerable, and you don't notice it much unless you are actually holding it with your iPad. Based on that I would have raised my rating, except for other problems that have surfaced. When leaving the case out to air out, the elastic band was in the default position on the outside of the case. This caused the case to warp slightly away from the iPad on the edges. The effect is that this moves the magnets in the case further from the iPad, and the iPad will not shut off based on them unless you unwrap the elastic and stretch it over the case, or put the entire iPad and case down with the flap side down on a table. I've left the case now with the elastic stretched holding the case with the iPad closed and hopefully it will warp back into position. The general impression though is of a low quality, flimsy case. Sorry, but I still can't recommend it. Earlier I would have given 0 stars if Amazon let me. Now perhaps it warrants the single star I'm forced to leave. I would strongly suggest looking for another case option than this one. If you have the time and patience to let the case air out for close to a month, then end up with a flimsy cheap case buy this one. I haven't tried other cases yet for the iPad Air, but I will be looking for another option. It was low cost, so I'm not even sure I'll bother to return it. That is it's only real feature it's cheap. I guess sometimes you do get what you pay for.

Yes, It can get worse... I left my iPad in the case on my very nice Oak desk. The case was left open and folded back, with iPad facing up and soft black inside laying on the wood of the desk. It had been sitting there for about a day or so. I picked up the iPad this evening and found black marks in stripes matching the pattern of ridges on the case on my desk. It seems to have stained the varnish on the desk!! Simply wiping with a wet paper towel won't remove it. I haven't tried polish or other cleaners, but this thing stained the surface of my desk!!! Yeah, this has to be about the worst case ever. Stay away. This is a large, multi-piece desk made out of real Oak, not pressboard. This very nice expensive desk has now damaged and the Fintie case left an ugly stain right in the middle. Awful, Awful case. You have been warned!! Don't but this thing, really. It is one thing to just be a piece of junk, but it has done real damage to expensive furniture!
