Poorly designed battery compartment, stupid safety switch - poor design - great idea
Was trying to avoid getting a gas powered snowblower. I only have a skinny walkway and a couple of stoops with three stairs each. Snowblower would be overkill anyhow. I cannot lift a lot of weight. For all these reasons I researched an electric/cordless shovel. Wa-la - found this one. Rated highly enough, but was concerned re: negative reviews on battery compartment. I posted a query on Amazon asking others more pointed questions re: battery. Earthwise answered - very good & provided a phone #/inquiry ref. #. OK - so I call them, tell them I'm missing some hardware components & most disturbing - this battery issue. The door (pictured) does not stay closed even WITHOUT the battery in it. Why, o why wouldn't they put a latch on the door so the battery stays in? There is zero to hold the door closed. 1st snow this weekend. Wha-la - battery falls out into snow. Yep, that was an obvious prediction. Then there's the stupid safety button. I understand - good idea for "safety" but... it's located on the side of the tubing - so you have this completely awkward position of trying to hold down the safety button AND operate the "on" position for the blades to spin. I'm now recovering with neck pain and hand pain from using this thing. I might as well have used a regular shovel and saved time! Messing with the safety button etc. took me about 30 minutes to clear one walkway! I could have done this in 10 minutes with a manual shovel! PS I've written to the company since with photos and haven't heard back. I will be continuing to explore these issues with them and give updates. Anyone out there use duct tape to hold the safety button and battery compartment? The company should toss in a roll in every box! Thanks for listening! UPDATE: I've finally had it with this thing. I'm returning it for full refund. Buyer beware. It's about 70% of what it's advertised to be and the other 30% is pretty important stuff!
