I don't even know where to begin .........
I'm a sucker for love stories and HEAs, but the storyline has to be engaging and I need to be able to feel the struggles and pain of the characters coming thru the pages. I have mixed emotions about this book. It had absolutely great potential but instead the writer chose to turn this into your typical porn based book, and let's face it, those are a dime a dozen (or even free). I kept reading the book hoping to get to the best part yet. I'm Catholic, born and raised. But I'm also very liberal and there are aspect of my religion I don't agree with. I've always believed that priests should be able to marry and have families of their own. Serving God has nothing to do with denying your basic human nature. We all need love and physical closeness. This subject has been taboo for ever and ever, and that's what prompted me to buy this book. HOWEVER, what I didn't care for was the unnecessary and extreme shock value. I'm not sure if the writer is Catholic or not, and if she isn't, then she should have done some research on the subject. As I said, there are certain aspect of my religion I don't agree with, but it doesn't mean I don't respect it or the other individuals that follow it to a tee. At first I was shocked (and believe me I don't shock easily) but then I became a little angry and that alone surprised me a bit. I was lying in bed reading and when I got to the SEX SCENE at the ALTAR, I actually set up abruptly because I though maybe I was tired and my eyes were tricking me into reading something that wan't there. Well, it was there ..... in black and white. Ok I thought, if she's going to go there then maybe ..... so I kept reading. But nooooo, there's more alright! Using anointed oil as a lubricant for ANAL SEX...... By then I was f*****g livid!!!! "WTF??!!??" I thought. Is she for real? How disrespectful!!! ......and of course she couldn't help herself and had to squeeze one more sex scene in church to celebrate their reunion and let's not forget including passages from the rites of the Eucharist while they're boinking each other. Ugh, how distasteful! Ms. Simone, here's some information you should have looked up before writing a couple of these scenes: "An altar is any structure upon which offerings, such as sacrifices and worship, are made for religious purposes" "The use of anointed oil: To consecrate or make SACRED in a ceremony that includes the token applying of oil" I don't think I have to explain what those two paragraphs mean........ To anyone else reading this and saying that they don't see what the big deal is, well let me put it this way then .... As an American citizen, you have the right of freedom of speech and to criticize your government, BUT WOULD YOU WALK INTO THE WHITE HOUSE AND BURN EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN FLAG YOU SAW DISPLAYED THERE? EXACTLY!!!!! Although I applaud this writer for wanting to (poorly) tackle this taboo subject, I cannot excuse her blatant disregard .... I'm sorry but it can't all ever be about the fame and the almighty dollar...... I don't get offended easily and I respect the writer's right to express herself, but quite honestly, this book left me nauseated ........
