BE CAREFUL!
I had the older Nordic ware and gave it up to my grand daughter for her dorm room. The top part of the egg fit snugly onto the bottom and never came off on its own. I think that one was made in the USA. I order a new one for myself and it showed the Nordic ware packaging which I wanted because of being made in the USA. When it arrived, it said it was made in Taiwan. Thinking it was a knock-off, I called Noric ware customer service. The number was on the box. I was told it was not a knock-off and that they were now being made in Taiwan. It had no Nordic ware logo on it and seemed like it was of a lesser quality. Even though it looked the same it was different in one critical aspect for me. The top of the egg did not fit snugly like the previous one AT ALL! It was, in fact, so loose if I tried to pick it up by the top of the egg, the bottom remained on the counter.
This gave me concern of scalding and I told customer service I felt it was defective. She said it should fit snugly, but would not "snap" into place. I decided to try it out and see if my concern was warranted. The first time I used it, it took longer to cook my hard boiled eggs than my old one. They were almost complete, but not quite. I also had to be much more careful when taking it out of the microwave and placing it on the counter to remove the lid so I could run cold water over the eggs in the bottom part. All went well with that first try.
The second time I used it my concerns were answered. I cooked the eggs one minute longer to get the hard boiled stage I wanted. I let it set in the microwave for about 5 minutes before removing carefully to the countertop. As I was sitting it down on the countertop, the top fell off and spilled the scalding water onto the counter top. It tipped away from me or I would have gotten burned. I also was using pot holders on both hands and the water was absorbed by them instead of getting to my hands. Needless to say, after that happening as I feared it could, I returned the product for a refund as being defective.
I am reordering one which says you twist the top to lock it onto the bottom as it has grooves in the aluminum edge.
I am hoping this will give me the protection that I used to have on the OLD MODEL of the Nordic Ware product I gave to my grand daughter. It also has a lower price than the Nordic Ware. I will post again on the new one I get to let you know how that one measures up to my Original Nordic Ware that I loved.
