Upon first receiving this item, I was impressed with the quality of manufacture. The breaking mechanism was solidly constructed and the overall weight/feel of the entire unit was solid as well. After some trial and error on how high to fill, running water on the bottom of the tray before pulling the breaking lever, etc., I was satisfied with the functionality of the tray (although, you shouldn't expect nice neat cubes, you'll definitely get a mix of decent cubes and broken cubes-- but ice is ice, right?). Unfortunately, after only 1.5 months of use (.5 longer than would allow for returning it), I noticed that the ice cubes started tasting like metal. The tray was only washed once with Dawn dish liquid before initial use, and then nothing else touched the tray with the exception of filtered water to make the cubes. I have no idea why a stainless product should cause the ice to taste like metal when it was essentially brand new and hadn't been exposed to anything that would tarnish/break down the surface in any way. Given that I mostly use the cubes for iced water, the tray has essentially been rendered useless as the metal taste completely distorts the taste of the water. Major bummer because I thought I would love this item... :/
