NOT BEESWAX!!
Beware, this is definitely NOT beeswax. Buy at your own risk! I’ve been making salves/hand creams and board butter for cutting boards and wooden utensils for years so I’ve tried many different brands of beeswax. I thought I tried this Beesworks since it has over 4000 positive reviews & it’s only $10. I certainly got what I paid for. I don’t know what this stuff is made of and why it has such high reviews. I don’t normally write reviews since it’s e-commerce and I just return poor quality products. However, I feel that this particular item is a health hazard. First, it will become moldy. Beeswax is known to be antibacterial and antifungal. It’s not supposed to grow mold! I was making a few batches of hand salves and was using a different brand of beeswax, but ran out half way so I pour some of the Beesworks pellets into the same oil mixture thinking that it would be okay. It was not okay. The wax took a while to melt. After it melted, I stirred the mixture really well and divide it up into tins using a syringe. Usually, the salves I make would cool and thickened within half an hour at most. When I went to put the cover on the tins with the Beesworks’ wax, I noticed that the oils and “beeswax” separated, and it has just a thin layer of the wax on top. That’s not supposed to happened. What I believe happened was that the oils mixture and the so called beeswax separated right after I stirred and while it was still in the pot! Therefore, when I dipped the syringe in, I bypassed the top layer of wax so I got mostly oil. As you can see in the picture, the wax just sat on top of the oils. What was worst was that I found out the mixture actually got moldy after a few days! There was about two cups of the oils and wax mixture left, but I ran out of tins so I figured I’ll just let it thickened and heat it up after I received more tins. Well, about 5 days later, I went to make more salves and saw that the content developed MOLD and the wax and oils completely separated. The wax just thickened on top of the oil!! What the ****?!! I wish I had taken a photo of it before dumping it. I still had 3/4 of the Beesworks’ pellets left so I opened it to see what’s up. Oh man, it smelled musty, moldy and plastic-y. I made the mistake of sticking my nose in it to inhale. I wanted to vomit. No joke. As you can see in the photo, the giant 5lb block of beeswax I have is the real deal. It’s made from beeswax in the US. It smells just like honey, which is a pleasant soothing scent. It costs substantially more per pound, but it’s well worth it. I make salves and board butter for mostly family and friends so I want to use the best. The cost I paid for quality products is well worth the peace of mind knowing that I’m using real natural ingredients. Anyhow, thanks for reading! Hope this helps!
