DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM
This is a very clear DO NOT TOUCH item. I bought it based on some studying of the filter effectiveness. While it's true the filter works very well, there are two serious issues:
1. It does not filter the water. What I mean by this is, you can't fill the reservoir in the sink. Uhhhh, what? Where would you fill it? You have to fill another container at the sink, let that water stand for an hour until all the aeration is removed from the water, otherwise bubbles build up in the filter and prevent it from filtering. So a water filter that doesn't allow water to filter through is sorta a no-touch. You have to disassemble the unit every time you fill it up, and as it's trying to filter you have to squeeze the filter firmly 4-5 times until all the air bubbles come out. Absolutely not a practical item.
2. So I'm two weeks in to owning this item right now, and this morning the water has started to taste like vinegar. Say what? So I read some reviews and it appears this is common. I called the company, said I live in Pasadena, CA, and she said, "Oh your water reads 400? Well that's going to clog up the filter fast." Two weeks fast? What a joke. So you'll have to buy new filters every two weeks minimum (we're a house of 2). Pasadena has very good municipal water, so my guess is 400 isn't an unusual reading.
In summary: This technology they're using isn't ready for showtime. Clearly it filters water, but it isn't functionally useful. You'll spend more time getting rid of air bubbles, disassembling the unit, letting water sit until bubbles are settled, ordering and paying for expensive new filters (shhhhh, that's their business model...), and overall you'll be frustrated. DO NOT BUY. You're welcome. Think I might go simple and do a brita or something.
