A Couple Concerns
Liver is a nutritional powerhouse, but just like with any type of meat and especially organ meats, it matters where it comes from. This product states that it’s liver comes from ‘Grass-Fed’ cows (cattle), however it doesn’t state if the cows are also ‘Grass-Finished’ which would be very important since if they weren’t, that would mean they were fed grain, which is what most people are looking to avoid in ‘Grass-Fed’ products. ‘Grass-Fed’ and ‘Grass-Finished’ cows are more nutrient-rich and since they are on their normal diet, they have less issues (diseases, need for antibiotics, etc). If you want to do a comparison, look at Vital Protein’s Beef Liver nutritional label compared to this one. As you may know, the Argentinean Beef business is big and is in high demand. For this reason, feed-lots have become very common in the country. It would not be a surprise if these cows were eating grass for part of their lives and then brought into feed lots. One last concern is DDT. DDT is an insecticide that is banned in many countries due to it being hazardous to humans, many other organisms and the environment. DDT, that was banned in US in the 1960s and New Zealand in the 1970s, wasn’t banned in Argentina until 1998. The problem with this insecticide is that it takes decades to breakdown in the environment meaning that if cows are eating grass in Argentina, they will have higher levels of DDT then other cows in the US and New Zealand. A quick Google search of ‘DDT’ will show you how hazardous it can be to Human Life. Also understand, that while the liver doesn’t necessarily store toxins, it can still be toxic IF the rest of the body is. Or better put: “laboratory analysis has proven that liver is actually completely safe for consumption and has no higher concentration of toxins than the REST of the body.” If you want more information on what I presented above read these: sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1309104215303159 articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/12/30/eating-organ-meats.aspx westonaprice.org/health-topics/farm-ranch/cutting-the-cold-hard-fat/ beefboard.org/news/files/factsheets/grass-finished-beef.pdf
