Worthless. I was treating a cast iron skillet on top of the range and was distracted by someone at my front door. I stepped outside for a few minites and then I heard my First Alert smoke and fire detector in the TV room going off, I came back in and the house is full of smoke. I grabbed a hot pad and at the skillet outside. The first alert kept going off until I aired out the house. The Kidde installed in the kitchen never even chirped. SO I took out the batteries and installed fresh ones and tested and it passed the test. A few days later I rolled up a newspaper , filled a bucket of water, lit the paper on fire right by the Kidde and let it burn until it got close to my hand then blew out the flame to create as much smoke as possible , dropping the paper in the bucket of water. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
