SERIOUS CYCLISTS: LOOK ELSEWHERE!
I feel compelled to post a review of this product because it has been
such a disappointment. In the two years that I have owned the
product, it has failed completely three times. In each instance of
failure, the product has required a change of the electric motor.
While parts are covered under warranty for 3 years from the time of
purchase, service is covered for only 1 year. Aftermarket service for
a bike such as this can cost as much as $200, or 30% of list price.
Given the high rate of failure of the equipment under my ownership,
the total cost of ownership will be well in excess of the upfront
cost.
I speculate that the electric motor on the bike has failed repeatedly
because it is incapable of maintaining "high" resistance levels for
extended periods of time. I should perhaps have realized that a bike
reliant on a small electric motor paired with magnets would be
inherently more fragile than a bike reliant merely upon manual
resistance. Serious cyclists who are in the market for a stationary
bike should bear this inherent fragility in mind when evaluating this
bike, and should also consider the significant "hidden" aftermarket
costs of failure. There are many compelling options on the market.
Life's too short for this one.
