★★☆☆☆
Disappointingly flawed in design.
After perusing the mostly overpriced selections of 13 gallon, lidded, kitchen plastic garbage cans, this Rubbermaid item was the closest to fulfill my needs. I didn't want a pedal bin, as I like to peel / prepare vegetables/apples next to me with the lid standing open. My last Rubbermaid can developed a split in bottom, after TWENTY YEARS!! I got tired of replacing the duct tape, so got this.
First flaw: the 13 gallon liner barely stretches around the broad top. Flaw #2: when plastic liner is in place, it prevents the swing lid from standing upright due to the ultra - flimsy hinges and stretched plastic bag. Flaw #3 one has to pull the bag down below the hinges in back, difficult because it only just fits. Flaw #4: perhaps the worst- the gap between the rim and front of lid is so large that during our scorching CA summer, both FLIES & ODOR found their way in and out . Not nice to walk by a stench, and open the lid to a face full of blowflies! This lid, by the way is #2 plastic, same as butter tubs. Not sturdy, easily bending, and the poor excuses for hinges were already in distress
and not holding onto lid.
I have replaced the duct tape, and re-installed my old, coral color, far better made 1990's trash can with tight closing hinged lid, and try to justify spending $30 on what is now a recycling receptacle, where the swing lid is handy, and I don't need to use a plastic liner.
