This is a VERY stupid idea
Full disclosure: I have not bought this product, however I am a microbiologist, and from a scientific perspective this is a very, very bad idea. You can't use UV light to clean dirty water, it will just kill the bacteria, it won't do anything to the actual chemical byproducts that they secrete which can also make you sick. More over, this method of sterilization is generally inappropriate for the container. These kinds of containers are the perfect environments for the formation of biofilms. Biofilm formation is a bacterial stress response that makes them resistant to all sorts of things that would normally kill them, like UV radiation. In the process of biofilm formation, they basically make this sugar and protein matrix that surrounds all the cells. These sugars and proteins will block the UV from reaching the bacteria, rendering the sterilization useless. This is because UV radiation can only kill bacteria completely if they're in a perfect monolayer with nothing around them. Even if this were partially effective, the UV radiation will create a selective pressure for bacteria that are radiation resistant. So it will become less and less effective over time. Just buy a bottle brush and clean it out with soap and hot water like a normal person. Save yourself the $100.
