looks like my "new" drive is "Out of Region" which means ...
Drive is not new
Received the "New" drive today. Didn't have the usual "Blue" label on the drive and since I was purchasing a new 500GB Blue drive I started to wonder. Had the Black Drive label but didn't say Black. Next, looked at both the date on the label...mine says 24 October 2017. Hmmm not to old for a new hard drive...lol. Next I decided I'd check the warranty on this "new" drive.
Interesting...looks like my "new" drive is "Out of Region" which means I'm checking the warranty in the US but this drive was originally sent to a different country and sold there...whereever there is. It also does not have any warranty status. Not that the warranty is expired but that there is no warranty information on this drive because it is Out of Region per WD's website. Last thing I checked for was is there any wear on the gold pins where the SATA and power connections plug into the drive. Guess what folks...yes indeed there are wear marks. Oh, did I mention the drive was resealed in a static bag and not the original that it usually comes in?
So in the end...This drive is being sold to us as NEW and this drive has been sold to and used somewhere in this world besides the US before being resold to us, AND they are charging $40+ for a used drive. No way guys.
Side note, I own and run a computer repair and business network services company in Rohnert Park, CA. I know what I'm looking at when as it relates to this drive. ...disappointed to say the least.
