Complete fraud produced so the makers of Downton Abbey can make more money
As a professional historian, this show offends me. Jamestown colony did not flourish. People went there and died. They didn't wear silk dresses with no sleeves and have their hair done as if for a fancy ball.
Everyone is so hungry to repeat the success of Downton Abbey that they will take any historical period and ruin it. Call it "Colony Town" and make up a story if you must. But Jamestown in 1619 this is NOT.
