I just spent two weeks in Japan. One temple I walked into (Henjyokutsu Cave at Daisho In Temple - pic attached) smelled so atmospheric and euphoric that I went on a mission to find the smell......it was pure sandalwood. So, what is a sandalwood lover to do but to seek out the best incense to bring home? After searching high and low, while in Kyoto I discovered Shoyeido's (renowned Japanese brand) premium brand, Lisn. I purchased 10 3-inch sticks and they smelled perfect - just like the temple. Since then I have yet to find anything remotely close to the quality of the Lisn brand. The Morning Star stuff you see here is so subpar you hardly smell any sandalwood. If you think this is what sandalwood smells like, it's not. This stuff has only a burning smell to it - often burning your eyes or nose. It smells cheap - not for home use and certainly not temple quality. I recently picked up Shoyeido's Sandalwood Incense, 35 sticks - Overtones found here on Amazon - and it is multiple steps up in quality from the Morning Star brand. I will continue to update this review when I find the best stuff.
