Based on my experience with other Blueair, I decided to get another. This time I thought I would "upgrade" from the 211 to the 205 as Blueair claims the 205 filters 99.97% of particles vs 99%. Unfortunately, unlike the 211, the 205 produced a strong chemical smell when initially operating. I thought it might be temporary and would burn off after a while. However, after a few days it still was producing the odor. Needless to say, quite a disappointment when you are purchasing a product to clean the air yet it seems to be off-gassing chemicals into the house. I tried to give the product the benefit of the doubt (given my prior experience with the 211), but when a guest commented that it smelt as if the floors had just been polished I figured it was time to return it. Sorry Blueair, you need to fix this or explain to customers what is going on.
