I purchased this mattress based on the excellent reviews it had received on Amazon
I purchased this mattress based on the excellent reviews it had received on Amazon. I have been sleeping on it for four months and 20 days. I am an average sized person 5' 9" tall 175 lbs, age 72. When new, the mattress was quite comfortable and seemed like an excellent mattress for an affordable price. After 4 and 2/3 months the mattress is breaking down severely in the area supporting my hip/pelvic structure. I don't know whether it is a failure caused by decomposition of the foam body of the mattress or some failure with the coil springs in the foam body, perhaps both. The breakdown has caused a cone shaped depression in the surface of the mattress that is approximately 20 inches in diameter and slopes from the mattress surface at the outer edge of the depression, down to the center of the depression. This central portion is about 10 inches in diameter and 2 1/2 inches deep. Pressing my fingers in this 2 1/2" hole, I can feel the steel coil springs against the fabric cover of the mattress. This failure has occurred gradually but the mattress is now totally unusable. Because of the size and extraordinary packaging method for shipping to the customer I know of no way to return it. I am very tolerant of problems with products I purchase because I worked in new product design and development for decades. I normally go to the company to help solve, but with serious concern for the on-line potential customers in this situation I feel it is necessary that they are aware of the product failure I have encountered. I will try to solve this problem by tracking down the manufacturer/ company and will post the results on this site if Amazon site accommodates follow-ups on reviews posted.
FOLLOW UP ON ABOVE REVIEW: (March 24 2016)After posting the above 1 star review I received an immediate comment from the seller. As directed I sent them a photo of the failure in the mattress. This was tricky and required some experimenting with lighting to make the depression clearly visible. Again I received a prompt reply explaining that the mattress has a 10 year warranty, that the failure in the mattress was clearly covered and that they would send me a new mattress. They did so immediately and I had the new one in about two weeks.
I give them FIVE STARS for standing behind their product and all related service. I will follow up with another update on the new mattress in January 2017. (or sooner if necessary)
FOLLOW UP (JAN. 2017) As promised, I am re-reviewing after about 1 year of use on the replacement mattress I received. The replacement mattress is no longer usable. The mode of failure is identical to the first mattress. The foam as well as the matrix of the foam and coil springs has collapsed and/or compressed into a large recess in the same area supporting my hip and pelvic structure. My weight is unchanged, about 175 pounds. The degree of failure is much worse than the first mattress due to longer time period used. The steel coil springs are in such close proximity to the mattress cover,in the central area of the depression, that you can feel the individual wire coils with your fingers. I did not cut the mattress open to ascertain the exact cause of failure. Too much of a mess to clean up and dispose of.
I have two closing comments. My 1 star review still stands. DO NOT BUY. My second comment. Be very careful how you interpret reviews. I read so many well intentioned reviews that are written soon after purchase of items that have lengthy lifetimes of use. It would be so valuable if we had many reviews, good and bad, after meaningfully long periods of use of items where this is the most important consideration. I realize it's easy to forget after 6 to 12 months, but a good review after 1 to 3 weeks for a mattress or etc. that should last for at least 5-8 years can be damaging to the customer instead of helpful. I will follow this for a while if any questions.
