Aweful Product!
In the spirit of full disclosure I think it's only fair to provide some background on my experience with this product by acknowledging that the first time that I began using it was approximately seven years ago at the advice of a clerk at a nutrition store. I had never heard of it and up until that point had mostly used the store-brand multivitamin. I was looking for something better and was impressed enough by what I heard that I was willing to pay the extra money that it cost and even take four pills a day instead of two. Since then I've gone back and forth with various multivitamins always looking for something better. From time-to-time I would find myself back using Garden of Life after discovering that what I had tried didn't live up to my expectations. Fast-forward to what prompted me to write this review. Somewhere along the way between when I began using Garden of Life and now Nestle bought Garden of Life, which somehow flew belong my radar. I've read all sorts of reviews about what an awful company Nestle is and how Garden of Life would never be the same, however I couldn't see that there was any difference and therefore decided to buy another bottle recently. Huge mistake! I got it after work and decided to start off slow by taking two pills with my dinner and take a full serving (four pills) the following day. This seemed like a good strategy, since it had been a while since I had taken Garden of Life, and that way I could ease into overnight. That is when things didn't go the way I had hoped. By the time I went to bed I noticed I didn't feel like myself, but thought maybe I had eaten too much for dinner. At that time my stomach felt slightly uncomfortable and I had mild pressure in my head. I brushed it off, thinking I would wake up feeling fine in the morning. Well when I work up I wasn't fine and it was a lot earlier than when I usually get up. I woke up needing to urinate. Again, I tried not to think much of this since even though it's not that common it happens. Eventually I went back to sleep and got up when I usually do, however still not feeling 100% like myself. I went on with my morning routine, and as it turns out headed out of town for the day for a trip that I had planned. I left in a hurry without being able to drink much of anything, although I did eat breakfast and took two Garden of Life pills. After slightly over an hour of being on the road I found myself needing to urinate again, which I thought was odd since I hadn't drank hardly anything with my breakfast. By that time I began noticing the slight discomfort in my stomach that I had felt the night before and also the mild pressure in my head. Additionally, my lips began to feel chapped. Within thirty minutes of taking my bathroom break I began feeling the need to stop again to urinate! I thought this was more than odd since I hadn't drank anything and I had just gone. You do what you have to do though, so I found a gas station and took care of business. By that time the pressure had becoming more noticeable in my head, and I was definitely noticing a change in mood. My lips were beginning to have a burning sensation also. I got to where I was going and by that time it was time for lunch, and therefore I thought it would be a good time to take the other two Garden of Life pills. I had reservations about taking the other two pills given everything I had experienced since taking the first two the previous night, but I thought if I was going to go all-in with Garden of Life than I needed to go ahead and take my final two pills for the day. Of course this was a big mistake! From then on I began to experience everything that I have described up until this point, except worse. The pressure in my head began to get worse, my lips began burning more, the urge to urinate continued to get worse, my stomach grew even more uncomfortable, and and now my mouth was beginning to feel dry. If I was at home I would have drank more water, however I was on the road and the last thing I needed was to be searching out gas stations on my way back. On top of all of that, I could tell that I was feeling even grouchier. So I did make it home, and as soon as I did I reached for some water and decided to take some ibuprofen to help shake off the now headache that I had. This will be the last time that I take Garden of Life. There is something that it contains that seems to act as a diuretic, which would explain the constant need to urinate that I was experiencing, as well as the dry mouth and burning lips. Apparently there is also something that is contains that gives me a headache and causes my stomach to feel uncomfortable. That is enough for me to stop taking something, and even though everybody is different I hope this helps whomever decides to read what I've shared in deciding whether to use this product.
