just NO
I gave it a try because it was free, but even being free wasn't enough to get me to keep reading it. I'm so sick of these "books" that have the feel of somebody's cherished yet mediocre 7th grade writing project. If you can't write a memorable character, don't introduce a new character every chapter -- it took me a few chapters to figure out that, yes, this character had been around before though I couldn't remember anything about them. The characters are 2-dimensional at best, a few are barely 1-dimensional. Wives act like sex kittens (I do believe the word "purred" was used to describe casual conversation) and ex-military men act like parodies of what a military man might be. The author tries so hard to create an atmosphere without giving anything away that you're totally and completely confused as to what is actually happening (I didn't have a clue. Bad things?). There is too much description of little things that don't matter and far too little story. When I'm really bored I've been known to read the descriptions of products in catalogues -- and yet, a few chapters in, I found I could not read this.
