What a pain in the butt
Okay, first of all, TECHNICALLY they work for their intended purpose. However, they are definitely not easier or more convenient than just using a pan.
For starters, the bags are just way too small for a sandwich to fit in so you're kinda putting a lot of work into jamming it in there. Add in the fact that grilled cheese is buttered on the OUTSIDE of the bread and you've got a huge buttery mess on your hands, LITERALLY. And in the end you STILL need to wash these so if you're not washing a pan you're washing a bag (which is not easy when there's cheese all inside it.
Here's how I now do it.
Take one piece of parchment paper, make the sandwitch on it, fold it over so it covers both sides of the sandwitch, and stick it in the toaster. When it's done, throw away the piece of parchment. DONE.
