Bests & Worsts Reviews from Amazon

Read all the reviews and ordered this set. Got them and all of the utensils have a clear coat of some sort of varnish. Some of them are coated MUCH more than other one's. On the one's that have a much heavier coat of the varnish, I was able to chip it off with my finger nail. What is this coating? Why is it on these? Is it toxic? It didn't wash off of them with soap and water. I am sure that this coating will end up in whatever food you are making. Like I said before, it came off very easily with a fingernail. I am sending them back. Too bad, as these look great but not taking a chance on some chemical coating/varnish that easily comes off and will end up in my food.
