Sides are too low, it's too expensive, non-stick coating scrapes off far too easily. Waste ot $$ and time.
5/18 update - The six inch sides just don't work for my cats, simply not tall enough. I'm sick of picking tootsie rolls off the floor around the box every day - and the smell is awful from uncovered cat crap. I had to go back to my 9 inch tall triangular plastic boxes which are harder to clean. I made the choice to scrape the plastic pans a couple of times a week, not pick cat crap off the floor daily. If you have kittens or your cats squat way down, this might be a good box - or not, read below.
Original review -
I initially had this box rated 5 stars until I found out the "con" items below with experience over time. Then I moved it to 2 stars because I was annoyed at how easily the pan scratched with the company "recommended" scoop and how frequently overboard cat dumplings occurred caused by the low sides. Then I moved the rating to one star when the company didn't answer my email questions.
I use Dr. Elsey's clumping litter for my 2 cats and the combination of that type of litter and cat urine creates an epoxy-like bond with uncoated metal and plastic litter boxes. I'm trying the more expensive Arm and Hammer platinum litter with the plastic boxes and it's better and lot less dusty. Below are my observations on this "non-stick" coated metal litter box:
Pro:
- The non-stick surface sort of works. I've had a few urine lumps that required firm pressure to dislodge.
- The cats don't claw at the metal like they did the plastic which reduces noise.
- The box allows me to use $12/40 pound Dr. Elsey clumping litter rather than the $24/40 pound "Slide" litter
Con:
-TOO low! 6 inches isn't enough - needs to be 9 inches tall
-Price - $60 is REALLY steep for a simple metal litter box with such a thin, cheesy, easy to scratch coating.
-I emailed this company with a couple of questions - zero response.
-Just like a teflon non-stick frying pan this non-stick pan requires careful use. I tried a plastic putty knife/chisel to safely dislodge stuck lumps of kitty pee and poo but it was too short and my hand was covered with used litter. I tried using their recommended coated metal litter box scoop and it scratches the coating right down to the metal WAY too easy. I finally bought this window tinting tool - it has a long handle and scrapes really well with no scratches - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/ B01I9KZJIK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
- DO NOT use the recommended non-stick metal rake/sifter from the same company to scrape waste loose from the pan - it WILL scratch the teflon off FAST.
Bottom line is this pan is far too expensive, the non-stick coating is too thin, it scratches off very easily with minimal pressure with the company recommended non-stick metal sifter, the sides are too low for my cats and this pan has a very large footprint. I went back to my smaller but taller Nature's Miracle plastic three sided litter box that I bought on Amazon for $22. So now I have a $60 non-stick oil change pan in my home shop.
